Went to a Nutritionist Today

Hello All, so i joined this site on 02/07/2008 and since then i’ve done the same thing that i always do start a diet be good for a few days and then end up cheating and not getting back on the diet. Feeling helpless, pathetic, useless and ashamed……. So I decided to go to a nutritionist. I went today and I feel pretty good about it. I’ve been on every diet imaginable as i’m sure that most of you can relate. For instance, Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, LA weight loss, Atkins diet, Jenny Craig, Slimfast, Medifast… Not to mention all the crazy fad diets, the 3 day diet, cabbage souple diet, hollywood 24 hour miracle diet. I’ve also tried not following any particular plan but just eliminating fats from my diet, yeah that didn’t work so much either…

So today when I went to the nutritionist it kinda started to all make since and I realized everything I’ve done has been all wrong. Weight Watchers is hands down the smartest most feasible plan i’ve ever done, however i realize now that even though i was staying with my points range I was eating to many carbs and still out of control portions, instead of more balanced meals with smaller portions being stretched throughout the day. Also the nutritionist was telling me not to be afraid to used oil, mainly olive oil or canola, she told me to use in moderation but to not to even worry about measuring it. So that should help with salads and marinades and also when cooking vegetables and proteins this will add more flavor. This was an interesting revalation to me because I had always thought that I had to avoid this completely because of the high fat content.

Now I have to try to figure out how to work this into my life. I’m not a big cooker since i am a student and I also work second shift… So its been all about grab and go and convenience…. I get the feeling in order to make this work though i’m gonna need to figure something out here. If not i’m gonna stay in this vicious cycle of ordering dinner out from work everynight with coworkers and eating all the wrong portions and types of food….. Maybe I need to start cooking a couple days a week but enough to last for a few days, or maybe make my own “frozen dinners” …. On other diets that I’ve tried I did alot of store bought diet type frozen meals for dinner, but the nutritionist told me I should try to stay away from that since most of them are high in carb contect and also sodium. I don’t know I’m still trying to figure all this out but I wanted to share. Thats all I got for now. I hope everyone’s doing well and i’ll keep you up to date on how this new leg of the journey goes!

Nearly every night when I make dinner, I make an extra portion or two and freeze them in plastic containers. Or if you’re like me and find that the microwave dries food out, use a ceramic bowl that is oven safe. Be sure to use masking tape to date and label what you’ve made. This will also save you money too! If you have a freezer in the staff lunchroom, leave a few there too. If you’d like some ideas on dishes that are awesome to freeze, just let me know.

    Stay positive!
